The Gala Event, Queensland

The Gala Show in Queensland on the June long weekend saw River Oak Regal Girl take out Champion Ridden Arabian Mare and Reserve Champion Arabian Halter Mare – congratulations to Rose Gum Arabians and Regal Girl’s rider Veronica Mortimer.

River Oak Golden Girl

On the 15th December, the wonderful Summitt daughter and much loved mare of Eve Neumann’s River Oak Golden Girl was euthanised after a long day of colic treatment.to which she did not respond.

Gigi, as she was affectionately known by all, had been a very successful show mare in her day taking out The Jean Luckock Memorial Sash for Best Ridden Arabian Mare in Victoria and was the 1998 Australian Reserve National Champion Ridden Mare in Queensland.

Gigi was 20 years old and was a gorgeous soul. She is sadly missed by us all.

Nunbilla Razzamataz

Two months later to the day, our old mate Nunbilla Razzamataz, affectionately known at River Oak as Uncle Razz, was laid to rest next to Golden Girl after succumbing to a probable rupture which had been brewing for many months. Razz was bred and owned by our dear friend Jane Blackett and was on one of his many “stays” at River Oak, his second home. Razz was 26.

Rose Gum Sapphire

Another extremely sad loss for our good friends Glenys and Richard Drew of Rose Gum Arabians in Queensland was that of  Rose Gum Sapphire (River Oak Imprint x River Oak Illusive Girl) who was a full sister to River Oak Platinum and River Oak Silver Edition and our new unnamed filly.  Sapphire’s loss is a huge one to Rose Gum’s breeding programme.

River Oak Shabu

We just learned of  the passing of another one of our favourites – River Oak Shabu, 21 years old, who in his younger days with rider Sandy Langford was an extremely successful saddle horse who’s many wins included Champion Bridle Path Hack at the East Coast Championships and the latter years of his life were spent as the mount of Alex Jones who also has River Oak Monarch and River Oak Nazadak. Photos show Shabu and Alex in a few aspects of his show days.

River Oak Issima - new home

The gorgeous filly by River Oak Imprint, River Oak Issima is enjoying her new home with Caitlin Langley & Evan Allitt and Caitlin has broken her in and is enjoying riding her.

Nizicia Bint Nizr (El Nizr imp)'s new colt by River Oak Tabu

Happier news – Our lovely Straight Egyptian mare NIZICIA BINT NIZR (El Nizr IMP)  foaled a lovely black turning grey colt River Oak Nullabor pending by River Oak Tabu – we hope he will become one of our future endurance horses.

River Oak Riverdance's new colt by River Oak Tabu

River Oak Riverdance, full sister to Australian Champion Stallion River Oak Imprint, had an absolutely stunning bay colt by Tabu – River Oak Diamantina pending

Both colts are personality plus.

River Oak Ambassador

We learned of  the passing of the wonderful Summitt son, River Oak Ambassador, who was also a half brother to River Oak Tabu - our condolences to Kirstin and family on the loss of this wonderful horse.

AWAY FROM THE FARM

Ray has resigned from The Board of The Australian Arabian Horse Society after 21 years as a Board Member. There is an article in the June 2011 Australian Arabian Horse News.

NEWS FROM THE RIVER OAK COWGIRLS

The River Oak Cowgirls have continued their support of their favourite country singers Lee Kernaghan, Markus Meier, our mate 8 Ball Aitken and McAlister Kemp and have even taken time away from the farm to travel to Tamworth in January for the Country Music Festival – we had an absolute ball and loved every minute of it. Made lots of lovely new mates. We went to the fundraising concert in BiCentennial park (the concert raised half a million dollars for the flood victims) which was absolutely awesome. So many great Australian performers but, of course the highlights for us were Lee and Markus.
We also went to the Markus Meier gig and had a heap of fun – he is absolutely amazing! Saturday night saw us at the 39th Country Music Golden Guitar Awards which was a fantastic night preceded by lovely wine tasting at the Yellow Tail Wine Van hosted by the most wonderful group of young people. We were interviewed by Dane Sharp from CMC Channel – oh dear, that was just after the wine tasting ! Our last night was spent at the Tamworth Aero Club with 8 Ball Aitkin and Bird Jenson – they are just so much fun! Spent Monday in Tamworth before driving back to the farm and work but with lots of great memories.

Since January it has been lots of farm work but we have also been to see McAlister Kemp at The Country Music Festival at Castle Hill Show and at their gig at the Members Bar at Sydney Royal, The McClymonts and Diana Corcoran at The Mean Fiddler, Jason Lee at The Vault in Windsor to name a few.

We recently went to Dubbo for  Markus Meier’s gig at Dubbo Show and had an absolutely fantastic night – even got to dance on stage with Markus !!!  It was absolutely freezing in Dubbo but once the show started we were very nicely warmed up!!

Following Dubbo, we had a “Pyjama Party” at 8 Ball’s gig in June – a really fun night as always!!!!

July was a  BIG month for us with 8 Ball on the 9th, McAlister Kemp on the 16th, Lee Kernaghan and Markus Meier on the 23rd and 30th  - we now have our own River Oak Cowgirls website where you can read all about it!!  And, we are planning on having some River Oak Cowgirl merchandise available very soon so check out our new website - www.riveroakcowgirls.com.au !
